These sides are the published face of a deeper Portuguese holding tagged to the language and the repertoire. Fado runs straight through what has been issued: Nicolino Milano’s 1914 Lu Lu - Fado stands at one end of the span, while Edmundo de Bettencourt, billed as Gesang, takes the two 1928 sides Fado de Santa Cruz and Mar alto - Fado cancao.
Maria Clara and João Nobre share the credit on Hás-de Voltar (You Will Return). Two further sides, Fado da Severa / Fado Anadia from 1930 and a record titled simply FADO, carry no performer name in the catalog at all.
The years that survive on the discs are few and scattered—1914, 1928, 1930—and the rights picture matches that sparseness: a single bulletproof pre-1923 side, about half from the 1923–46 gray period, and a few still unclassified.
About this hearth
Lisbon studios documented professional fado singers and guitarists from the early twentieth century, with further activity in other Portuguese cities and in diaspora communities. Classic texture pairs voice with Portuguese guitar and classical guitar; Coimbra fado carries a different student and guitaristic ethos from the Lisbon tavern style. Rural song and dance from north to south appear more unevenly on commercial disc. The records fixed fado’s early stars and repertory at the moment the genre was becoming a national emblem.

Every recording here is a historical track sourced from a public archive and remastered through a purpose-built chain — the same fixed chain for every file, no machine-learning enhancement. The aim is simple: sound better, and meet YouTube's audio standards. Rights status differs per recording and sources are credited where known; anything still in copyright is published with attribution and removed on request.
